If your parents say no, then it's a no. Use a phone to contact friends.

There are plenty of ways to communicate other than Facebook. My friends and I use Yahoo Messenger and Skype to stay in contact with each other. (P.S. You could always create a Facebook account under a fake name... your parents would never know!)

Honestly if your parents say no they have their reasons. And to be honest your not missing out on much. Just use a phone or other social networkings to talk to friends.

In this case, I'd say that not being allowed to have a Facebook page has the potential to seriously impair development of your social skills.

Using a TI calculator for your math in school would have been unheard of and totally unacceptable when I was in school. Now it's a required school supply.

Tell your parents that you have to live in the world that you exist in, not in their grown-up world. Facebook may not be essential for them, and they don't have to have an account, but it's a necessary part of your social environment.

I don't have a Facebook account, but if I still had children your age, I would definitely let them have one.

Is there a way that they can reasonably monitor your activity so that they might feel more comfortable about your having such an account?

Your parents know best, honestly. Facebook isn't the best thing anyways. You're really not missing out. It's a waste of time and when you are on it, your grades slip and you become addicted. There's really not much to it. It's also not the best way to communicate. Use your phone! There are also creepers out there. It's best to stay off it for your safety. Sorry hun.

Ask them their specific reasons why they don't want you to have Facebook. Ask them calmly and civilly so that they do not just brush you off. Discuss with them why your disagree with their points and make sure no one raises their voice.
Explain to them that you think that you are responsible enough and old enough to have a Facebook. If they still say no, offer that you can be friends with them on Facebook so that they can monitor what you post. Promise that you will not take part in any drama and draft with them a set of rules for you to follow while you are on Facebook (like: no public profile, no accepting friend requests from strangers, etc. ) You will only use it for 'X' amount of hours a day on weekdays and 'y' amount of hours a day on weekends, with no Facebook after z o'clock. Homework and chores come first before Facebook.
If your parents don't agree to this, that is a frighteningly tight ship they're running over at your house.

Just make it under a fake email and use a fake name then tell your friends the name and then there you go.

Listen to your parents. They don't care what everyone in school has. They are raising you, not then.

I just made an account and didn't tell my parents and they found out and didn't care. I use it to talk with my friends and my parents thought that it was legitimate enough and let me go on.

If parents don't agree with this then you should not use Facebook.

if you do not have facebook then WHY DO YOU HAVE ASK!?!? do you think that just because your parents don't let you have facebook you can use ask.com or twitter or gmail or myspace??

My parents are aware I have a Gmail that I use to communicate with family, for details about work hours and to send myself written work from school. However my friends don't use Gmail to chat for they use facebook or other social media.
Also they are aware I have ASK.com but they won't let me have anything else like Facebook, twitter, instagram, they even hate my few insentient Youtube vids.

Look, Facebook is really dangerous but 14 should already be fine, I had my Facebook from 9 years old and now I am 15.
Try to tell them that you're big enough and that Facebook allows you to sign up from 13 years old.
If nothing helps, just tell your friends to use WhatsApp or a Group SMS service in order to contact each other.
You can also tell them to look in your messages for the beginning and tell them to add you as a friend on Facebook like my parents, it may look stupid near your friends but begin simply like that and maybe later you can remove them or stop letting the see the messages and stuff.

Your parents are probably trying to be careful on what they let you do because there are lots of dangerous things out there. Just remember that it is dangerous and if you still want a Facebook here are some simple steps to do in order to get one:
1. Know exactly what Facebook is about and think of why you want it so bad.
2. Then think if its a good enough reason to get one.
3. If it isn't then there you go don't make one. If it is then try to ask your parents why they don't want you to have one.
4. when you find out why your parents don't want you to have one try to fix it. If they say your not responsible enough then try to look more responsible to them. If they say your not old enough then wait until next year and then try this possess again.
5. If they see what ever the problem was is fixed then make an account and have a blast but, Facebook isn't as great as you think it is. If they still say no then odds are they are just being parents and don't want you to have one so wait until you can make decisions for yourself.
