Why does my dog keep barking and howling? (read details)

My dog will walk into the room and randomly out of nowhere she will start barking and howling. I always give her tons of attention and every time she does this I stop what I'm doing and start petting her and give her a lot of attention. Then I check to see if she has to go out and if she does, I let her out. I just let her out and right after she came in she started howling and whining. I refilled her food dish and water dish before I let her out. What could this be?

Dogs are highly sensitive to sounds that you may not even be able to hear .. could it be a squeaky ceiling fan (or something) that is annoying her ? .. or could it be that she just wants your attention?

Maybe there's a spirit in your house.

Does she bark at you or to a wall or something
Report as
She mainly barks at me but she's barked at the wall before.

That's not normal, if she's constantly barking then there might be something.

My dog does it a lot. Since he's an old dog, we think he's just hearing things.

She probably sense something evil or she trying to get your attention to see something.

Sounds like she is upset about something. Is anything going on outside your house like at a neighbor's? Does she usually bark when she senses somebody outside?

No...I live in a pretty quiet neighborhood. And she doesn't bark at strangers unless my other dog does.

She might be hurting in a place you can't see. Talk to a vet

Maybe she telling you she wants to go for a walk? I used to have a dog who barked and whine when he wanted to go for a walk or a ride in a car!
