Is there a long term solution for a dry throat?

If possible, seven hour relief, because I need to make it through a school day. NOTE: Water doesn't work and a creamsicle is what seems to work best so far.

Honey & lemon juice in warm water!! Honey sticks to throat for a little while. It really really works for a dry throat. Not terribly long-term relief, UNLESS you get a thermos and sip it throughout the day, then that would be long-term. That's a lot of sugar though, if you sipped like two 32oz Thermoses all-day, so I'd cut back on any other sugary sweets for the day cuz that granulated white-sugar that is used in most desserts can lower your immune-system deffenses.

Chewing gum makes your mouth water and when you swallow it could keep your throat from becoming dry. And gum lasts for a long time if you dont spit it out.

I also have the same problem.Sometimes, you might have this problem caused by the cold,so you have to go to see a doctor and get some medicine.Sometimes,if you don't drink water while you are thirst, your throat will be very dry,so you have to drink water in time.Other, you should drink enough water every day.

It depends on the cause. There may or may not be an underlying medical condition but should be evaluated by your doctor because it does have the potential to be indicative of a serious medical issue. Chronic dehydration from insufficient fluid intake can be easily remedied by drinking more fluids. On the other hand, polydipsia, a symptom of diabetes is seen as increased thirst and fluid intake. Xerostomia, which is decreased saliva production if untreated can cause serious health complications such as advanced tooth decay and even heart disease and strokes. Some cancers can present with simply the sensation of a dry throat. I am not trying to scare you. For all I can tell from your description you might just be thirsty. But because it could possibly be a serious medical issue I urge you to get it checked out and treated. Worst case scenario is that early detection will increase the likelihood of successful treatment and a cure. The longer you wait the worst it could get. Be brave, and more importantly be safe, get it checked out by a real doctor. Good luck.

Do you suffer acid reflux? It can cause a dry throat. Make sure you rinse the toothpaste out of your mouth properly when you brush your teeth. See your doctor if its a long term thing.

What causes the dry throat? Is it medications? If you are dehydrated then you must drink more water. But is this a problem with cold symptoms. Drink green tea, 2 cups a day and any other kind. Normally, adults should drink 3 qts. of water a day (counting water in juices, and tea). If you are overweight drink more than that.

When dry mouth is noticed, the dentist can be helpful to obtain a proper diagnosis. The diagnosis will help in developing a plan for management and treatment. The person should incorporate a low-sugar diet and begin daily use of fluoride treatments and antimicrobial rinses to combat the effects oral dryness have on the teeth and oral tissues. When selecting a mouthwash, the person must choose a product that doesn't contain alcohol, such as Biotene, for alcohol-based products will only cause further mouth dryness.

First, don't eat too many cough drops, it can be harmful if you eat more than 10 in 3 hours. You can use some warm tea with honey in it, or a small spoonful of honey.

Gargle Salt Water, it is a solvent so it dissolves the gunk in your throat and wets it too. Water itself is not very good, salt water is. :)

Cough drops seem to work for a while for me. But the REALLY important thing to know is to brush your teeth a lot and then go to your dentist every few months. It seems that the dryness in the mouth allows germs to flourish and you can end up with a nasty BUNCH of cavities. I was not aware of that and skipped going to the dentist for two years because my dentist retired. So I finally went to the dentist my original dentist recommended and I have cavities all over and need to replace some crowns. The total cost? About $12,000. I almost fainted. I also slowly tapered myself off of that medication and now my mouth isn't dry any more. If you have to take the medication try using Biotine. It doesn't taste all that wonderful but it comes in several different forms. Good luck.

I say there is no real long term solution that I know of. Just drink plenty of water and maybe small amounts of honey. If you have cough drops use those. If it's bad, maybe take a day off of work and drink some hot herbal tea. Water is most important though!
Hope this helps. ^.^

these are not good solutions for the permanent on going problem because of the sugar and glucose in honey and syrups that would increase the problem if you are a diabetic and obese you need to find a solution that doesn't add calories to your day that would be putting like a marble in your mouth that works like gum and biotene gel works great it is what they use in hospitals but it is not for one time you need to use it all the time as a preventative action like 2x a day or at night put it where your tongue will leave it alone you only need a little ball smaller than a green pea try it if it doesn't work keep the receipt and take it back merry Christmas
