Why do people hate that I'm so accurate?

On a lot of subjects I know the answers to them, I often correct people when their wrong. And yes I know it's upsetting to be wrong but when ever I'm wrong I don't act like everyone around me, sure my voice sounds a bit angry but their voice is full on angry but it's like they hold it in at the same time. I mean, I feel like I'm making more people get mad then when they make me mad. I don't mean to make them so upset it's just I want people to know what is right instead of what is wrong. I act about accuracy as a posed to neatness, say someone saw a picture frame that was a little off they would keep thinking about it until something was done about it. I'm just like that if someone says something wrong I hold it in until I can't take it anymore and I just have to tell them their wrong and what the right answer is. my question is why do people hate it when I'm so accurate?

Maybe you should wear the t shirt that says "I'm with stupid.". Are you a corrections officer? Are you the perfect police? Mr. Right, here you come to save the day? Well, no one asked you to. It is not your right or responsibility to correct others. Why not start correcting your bad manners if you are so concerned with perfection. "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone."

That'd be OK if his friends didn't paint a line through the "with".

In my opinion, people are different and they behave differently. Be careful when correcting someone who's on the wrong. Do it in a calm way that they won't feel stupid and try understand why they hate you and how you can come to better terms.

They call people who are always correcting others anal retentive. If someone wants your opinion they will ask for it.

They probably perceive you as being a rude person who enjoys showing-off and humiliating others in public rather than a stickler for accuracy. Being corrected, particularly in a group can be really embarrassing (especially in important situations like in meetings at work or in front of a class).

Just take a step back and think about the situation - will anything *actually* bad happen if you don't get the correct information out there (e.g. might someone fail part of an exam or screw up an important job), is it a situation where your contribution is actually desired and if you must correct someone how can you do it in a polite, tactful and well mannered way?

They might be jealous. Also, it's not always bad thing that your smart, it's just when you correct people they might get angry. Because you know what they say, you learn from your mistakes.

Codeman, you've got to be having a lend of us. I think you might be sitting out there at your PC with a big grin, waiting to see who will point out all the errors (or, "inaccuracies") you made in your question -- and yes, there were plenty.

On the odd chance that you're serious, I'd suggest you go along to one of those places that do body piercings and get your mouth fitted with a zip closer so that you can keep it closed. You can lose a lot of friends correcting their errors -- but when you are a few degrees short of accurate yourself, it can cause you severe embarrassment.

Ah, youth! When you think you know everything. What did Bob Dylan say in that song? "But I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now..."

I'll sing it to you if you like - earplugs in!
Report as
Earplugs not necessary, waldorff. I'm not wearing my hearing aid. Just send me a few crotchets and quavers and I'll mix them up a bit on screen.

@codeman: You were the one boasting about how good you were. I merely made the observation that you had some improvement due.

Before you start boasting try to make sure you actually have something to boast about.

I think I might keep this in its entirety and post it next time somebody asks about the funniest questions on Ask. I have too many now for a single answer, but this one's a screamer.
