Can you pass this visualization test?

Just want to see how good people are at picturing things in their head. So please, DON'T look at the posts below before trying this yourself. Don't draw it out, just think about it in your mind.

Imagine a capital letter "y". Put a small circle at the bottom of it. Add a horizontal line halfway up. Turn the figure upside down.

What figure are you imagining now? How hard did you find this to visualize?

When you started I thought you were going for a martini with arms balancing on a ball and then you had to go and spoil it.

It's a stick figure. It was relatively simple.

The mods are out in full force today. Did you see my last comment to you on Idaho? After they pulled it, I was notified that name-calling was against Community Standards! I put Lol. they must not be hip to text speak. Squares, I say. Did you get spanked too?

My answer was deleted but I almost never get an email about a deleted comment or answer.

So much of my stuff is deleted, they probably don't have enough time to send me emails.

Yeah awesome. Are you usually good at visualizing things in your head? Did you close your eyes when you visualized the stick figure, or keep your eyes open?

Here's another one: Imagine the capital letter K. Attach a square to it on the left side, with the same height as the letter. Put a circle inside the square. Rotate the figure 90 degrees (a quarter of the way around) counterclockwise.

Yeah, and I kept my eyes opened.

And that's a TV stand, right?

Got any other ones. These are fun!

I got a few more, glad you enjoy them! lol I enjoy making them up so I'll probably keep posting here if you wanna keep doing them.

Do you read the whole thing first, and then imagine it, or imagine it as you read it?

Ok here's another one: Imagine an addition sign. Attach a vertical line with the same height as the addition sign to the left end of it. Rotate the entire figure 90 degrees clockwise (a quarter of the way around). Remove all horizontal lines that are on the left side of the vertical line. What do you have then?

You make these up? You must have a very creative mind, then. Oh, and was I right on the TV stand one?

I do both. I read and imagine everything at the same time and then imagine everything again afterwards.

That's a cross, isn't it?

I like making these up, but I'm just really bad at imagining things. Really impressed at how easy this seems to be for you. Are you able to imagine complex things really clearly in your head, like if you had to imagine the face of someone who you know really well, can you picture it clearly all at once? When I try, only a small section is clear at a time and the rest seems to be blurry in my mind.

You were right about the TV stand, but a cross isn't what I intended for the other one. I'll try to write it more clearly:

Imagine an addition sign. Attach a vertical line to the left side of the addition sign, and make the vertical line the same height as the addition sign. Rotate the entire figure 90 degrees clockwise (a quarter of the way around). Remove everything to the left of the vertical line. What is the figure?

Well, I'm an artist, so I have to usually imagine things well in order to draw them, and when it comes to visually drawing them as well, but you just have to completely clear your mind and focus on one thing when you want to imagine something.

When I imagined the face of my ex best-friend, I was able to draw it out in my mind all at once.

It's the letter K! :D

It's the letter L!

Not exactly.... This is what I intended. I hope it wasn't my description that was off. http://postimg.org/image/prlue5vkx/

Your description matches that screenshot completely and that was much harder to visualize .-.

Can I ask you to try one more type of visualization test? This one's a bit different. Basically, I'll give you three figures for you to visualize and try to arrange in your mind to create a recognizable figure. For example, a circle, the letter 8, and the letter D could be combined to make a smiley face (with the circle as the head, the sideways letter 8 as the eyes, and the D as the smile). Can you picture that?

Let me know if you'd be willing to try this :)

Yes, definitely! I will try it.
Report as
Ok. This was actually done as part of a scientific study so it's pretty cool. Give yourself 2 minutes to visualize the three figures, and try to re-arrange them in your mind to make a recognizable figure. You can change their size, but not their shape. If you can't think of anything in 2 minutes, that's definitely ok, just let me know.

The three shapes are a square, a circle, and a straight line. See if you can think of an image that contains only these three things.

The only thing I thought about was a guitar made out of a cereal box with a wooden stick coming out of it to make the neck haha
Report as
Hah that's funny. What was your process for coming up with the image? How did you get to thinking of the shapes as a guitar?

Also, did you close your eyes when you did this?
Report as
live4today
The first thing I thought about was the square being the base of the guitar or the body of it, and then the circle being the one inside of the square, and the line being a part of the neck that overlaps the square and circle and I remembered building a cereal box guitar and I visualized that after I came up with everything.

I didn't close my eyes.
Report as
Hah ok thanks! When I tried it, I just came up with a flag, which is much more boring than your idea. You're pretty creative to think of that!

When you first started, did you immediately jump to trying to make the shapes into a guitar, or did you start by re-arranging the shapes randomly in your mind until you were picturing something you recognized?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just really curious about this stuff :P
Report as
live4today
Well your answer was right on. Mine was way off haha You're pretty creative, as well :P

When I first started I randomly re-arranged the shapes.

There's no need to apologize :) It's fine. I enjoyed doing these kinds of things. They kept my mind working and I needed that.
Report as
Hey, I'm just talking to some other people about different ways of doing this, and I want to clarify. When you say "when I first started I randomly re-arranged the shapes" what exactly do you mean?
Report as
live4today
I mixed up all the shapes in separate places until I got a clear image in my mind.
