How do I convince my dad to get us a dog if we already have a cat?

I have a cat and I have had her for 5 years. I want a dog but my dad thinks we are not home enough to take care of it. He says I can't even take care of my cat. How can I convince him to get us a dog for Christmas?

This can be a tricky situation because dogs don't normally get along with cats (no duh). If your dad says you don't take care of your cat then you should really think about what he said. Ask yourself: "Do I clean the cat's litter box almost all the time without getting reminded?" or "Do I always give it fresh food and water every day?". Stuff like that, and if you answer no to any of these what makes you think you can handle a dog? They are much harder to take care of and if you really want to get a dog start taking care of your cat all the time. Good luck getting that dog, but don't forget about your cat while you are begging for one because it can aid you in this process.

If all else fails treat your cat like a dog! It's what I do, I even trained it to sit, roll over, and even fetch. They are just as smart, but they are a bit stubborn. So don't forget your furry friend can be just like a dog with a little bit of time. :)

Actually, cats and dogs can get along just fine. We had our cat for three years then got a dog. It only took 2 hours for our cat to accept it. It's an individual thing. If they are raised together, there is typically no problem. If you had one first and then add the other later, I recommend a baby. If you have had a dog for a while, get a kitten. If you have a cat, get a puppy.

Your dad us right. You don't get an animal just because you want one. First you make sure you have the time and money to take care of a pet.

I got my mom to let us get 2 puppies:) do extra chores around the house and make sure u take extra good care of your cat, show him u deserve one, but then again a dog needs an owner whos going to be there and who has time for him, just choose wisely:) good luck

If that is true that you all are not home enough then a dog is a bad idea. Dogs require much more attention than cats. They need to be walked or exercised every day. This includes when it's raining or snowing. It would not be fair to have a dog if you could not give it the attention that it needed.
