There's a lot of work involved in the distribution of a film. Theaters actually bid on films and they have to work that process and finalize contracts. Then there's a LOT of marketing that needs to take place. Interviews to schedule, ads to place, merchandising to create and license. And...they often wait for a specific time to release a film. They want to hit the market at just the right time to maximize revenue. They are aslo working out specifics on the all important DVD and PPV market. Lots to do.
