What day was jesus christ born, and what day did he died

how old was jesus christ wend he died, and what month did he died

Report as

The story is kind of amazing and is surprising to most christians because they have very little knowledge of the history of their own religion, But here goes.
Pope Gregory, who set up the calendar we currently use (the Gregorian calendar) back dated the years to the birth of Jesus, but screwed it up. We currently live in the AD which is an abbreviation in Latin for "Year of Our Lord" and he dated Jesus, to year 1 AD, but the problem with that is Jesus was sought after by Herod the Great, and he died in the year 4 BC (Before Christ), so Jesus had to be born prior to 4 BC. The exact time of year is not really known, but judging by the fact of the story has the sheep out in the fields, it must have been spring. December 25, as someone put forth in a previous post stated, was taken from pagan celebrations, there were many at that time of year, the main one was the birthday of Mithras, that was on the exact day of December 25th, this was established by Constantine, because there was a lot of competition between the 2 belief systems, and he wanted christianity, to prevail., Saturnalia was the other main celebration, but it was a few days earlier on the solstice.

As far as his death, he was supposedly 32 years old when he died, again no one knows what day or time of years but it was 32 years after his birth.

Nobody knows for sure exactly when he was born or died. Though it's almost certain he wasn't born in the winter (Christmas). ~~ And Christmas was actually "stolen" from Pagan worship, to try and make it easier to convert Pagans to Christianity.~~ Many scholars believe Jesus was actually born in the spring.

Where do you get your info from walter?
Report as
Nope. If there were lambs in the field, he was born in the spring. Almost every Biblical scholar believes he was born in the spring. They ALL agree he wasn't born on Christmas. Look at the history of Christmas, to see why that day was picked.
Report as
Christmas was "borrowed" from the Pagan celebration of Saturnalia. Look it up.

Do you belive in god walter

Walter has given an intelligent response here backed up by history. The fact we celebrate an event on a certain day does NOT mean that is the day it happened in history. Your faith is admirable, Hogkiller. I am a Christian, too. You need to recognize Walter's superior store of information in this situation. He has studied history. We need to show Walter respect.
Report as
It is also held that Mary became pregnant with Jesus in 5 BC, that Jesus was born in 4 BC and that the Magi visited and brought gifts to Jesus in 1 AD. So in 1 AD, Jesus was actually 4 years old and not a baby.
Report as
Hey Hogkiller, Walter is correct, you make *yourself* look dumb by calling *him* dumb just because he presented an arguement you've never heard of before.
Report as
Actually, Hogkiller300mag, I'm an Agnostic. If you don't know, that is someone who believes in God ... but also believes that God cannot be known.
Report as
kojobovava, I have heard that line of thought, but the issue with it is that if Herod died in 4 BCE (Before our Common Era, same timeline as BC-AD), then that means the Magi spent 5 or more years looking for him.
Report as
i agree with walter. nowhere in the bible does it say jesus was born on december 25th. if you dont believe us, look it up!
Report as
walter? what do you mean by god cannot be known? just curious.

Have you ever heard the story of the 3 blind men trying to describe an elephant to each other, based on their limited knowledge of what they could feel? Since God is omnipresent, omnipotent, and eternal ... whereas we are not ... we can never fully describe God. Like the blind men, we can only describe minor details that we personally experience. Details that, when added together, still fall far short of the complete picture.

It is the same reason that science will never be able to prove OR disprove God ... He is simply beyond science's ability to measure or quantify.
Report as
Walter, you are right that science cannot disprove the existence of a god, but it doesn't have to. The onus of proof should be on those who believe, not on those who do not. Science also cannot disprove Russell's teapot or the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Please feel free to look those up if you are unfamiliar with them.
Report as
Agnostics are those that question the existence of a higher being. The term "Question" is the main focus here. Additionally, there are those faiths who do believe in God, but do not believe that Jesus was his son, sent by God as the Messiah.
Report as
odog ... As I said, science can neither prove NOR disprove God. Science can only prove things that can be measured or duplicated. Since God can't be, science can not prove Him. OR, rather than "disprove", perhaps I should say "debunk". >> bluepencil ... I hope everybody knows that various religions have different beliefs. Even within a religion such as Christianity, there are multiple sects with different beliefs. (agnostic - Definition [ag-nos-tik] (n.) Person who believes that the existence of God is unknown and unknowable) To me, that doesn't mean I don't believe in God ... it means His existance/attributes can't be factually proven. It also means (to me) that maybe one has to look at ALL religions, to get a better "picture" of God.

why wood we celebrate it? why do we celebrate halloween?
Report as
Um ... Jews don't worship Christ. Why do we celebrate it? Look up the history. Christmas was "borrowed" from the Pagan celebration of Saturnalia. Complete with decorating a tree, lights, giving presents, and feasting.
Report as
I can assure you that Jews do not "worship" him as the messiah. In fact, that is the main difference in the two faiths.
Before anyone discusses "Christ killers" with you, please remember Jesus himself was Jewish. Those that killed Jesus were murderers--it doesn't matter what religion they were. Just as Hitler, Mussolini, and Jeffrey Dahmer were born as Christians.

Nobody knows when he was born exactly but considering the events of that time of the year, I would say around May. He did not die yet but he will die during his second coming.

Maybe according to the koran but we're not discussing fairy tales about riding on a pegasus with a woman's face.
Report as
According to the Bible also Jesus was not crucified! There was no crucifiction Tony.
Report as
There was no crucifiction? ... What the? The Romans crucified LOTS of people. Matthew 27:35 *And they crucified him ...* You were saying? As I said, maybe according to the koran, but we're talking about the koran, stop injecting.
Report as
momo, unless you define crucified differently, the bible states jesus was hung on a cross (generally understood as crucified), in John 19.
Report as
I have a question for you seedy. Are resurrected bodies spiritualized or are they flesh and bones?
Report as
Boy momo, that'd be a question for someone that believes in resurection. However, in my studies, and reserch, I have found that some christian denomonation beleive that jesus was resurected in spirit form, but most beleive his flesh and bone body, was, but that creates a conundrum, because the bible says that flesh may not enter the kingdom of heaven.
Report as
Exactly Seedy, resurrected bodies are spiritualized but we read in Luke 24:39 that Jesus said he was in flesh and bones. The disciples thought he was a spook and he reassured them that he was not what they were thinking by showing his hands and feet. If he was not resurrected he was not crucified!
Report as
Hebrews 11:15 ... Enoch taken to Heaven without dying. > 2 Kings ... Elijah taken to Heaven without dying.
Report as
"Doubting" Thomas put his fingers on (or through) the wounds Jesus suffered on the cross. I would think that means Jesus' body was flesh and bone at the time.
Report as
That is what I'm saying, Jesus was in flesh and bones in the upper room. Had he been resurrected he would have been spiritualized but that was not the case! In the upper room, Jesus was the fellow he was three days ago (even tho Jesus failed to fulfil his sign of Jonah).
Report as
So ... other than "resurrected" (resurrect - Definition [rez-uh-rekt]
(v.) To bring to life again) ... what word would you use to describe someone who is brought back from the dead? Lazarus was also brought back from the dead. Many people in modern times are brought back from death. Not after as long as days, though. (lol) ... But we always say they were "resurrected". So what other term should be used? Because they are brought back as flesh-and-bone, not spiritualized.
Report as
Momo, the point is actually moot, as I can only state what different sects of Christians believe, on this subject. If he died or not cannot be established until such a time as his existence is proven, and with no factual evidence it remains unknown except by virtue of faith Christians hold. I do not have that faith.
Report as
Walter I am well aware of the stories you posted. I only posted what different sects of Christianity believe. And with what the bible says it creates a conundrum for both. Mohammad was also taken to heaven with out tasting death.
Report as
Walter, I dont know if you are aware of this term but there is something called "resuscitation". It almost sounds like resurrection but it's not the same thing at all. Resuscitation happens at hospitals like you said when someone is brought to life again. On the other hand, a resurrection is when the soul leaves the body in the corporeal world, becomes non-physical and goes to the incorporeal world. The body BECOMES spiritualized, no longer in flesh and bones. You gave an example of Lazarus, it must have been a resusciatation because once a person dies that person cannot die again. The scriptures tells us and science tells us. No man can die twice and if I agree with you that Lazarus was resurrected from the dead then he would have been walking on earth with us because I assume you already know that he was killed once after he was raised from the dead.

Coming back to the topic, Jesus was far from being a spirit in that upper room when reappeared to his disciples. He was not dead nor did he come back from the dead because he was not killed and if he was not killed there was no resurrection! He ate broil fish and honeycomb, I'm sure you know that resurrected bodies DO NOT EAT FOOD!
Report as
No Seedy, Muhammad pbuh died a natural death when he was 63 years of age . Are you talking about his journey to heaven?

"Glory to Allah Who did take His servant for a Journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the farthest Mosque. We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing." Quran 17:1
Report as
momo ... So do you believe the Romans couldn't tell he was still alive when they took him off the cross and gave him to his family, that Jesus' followers who prepared him for burial couldn't tell he was still alive, and that those who sealed him in the tomb couldn't tell he was alive? Or do you believe that the Bible is wrong on that account, and that he was taken off the cross before he died ... and the Jewish leadership "forgot" about him? >> I already showed that the definition of "resurrect" is "to bring to life again". "Resuscitate" means "to revive". They can both be used to refer to bringing someone back from death. Nothing I have read in "resurrect" means the person has to be in a non-corporeal form, can't eat, or is incapable of dieing again. Please tell me where that is.
Report as
Wait Walter, do you argue with me that spirits do not eat food? Seedy can you help us here because our friend Walter says that spirits can eat honeycomb and broil fish and can be in flesh and bones. Walter if spirits are in flesh and bones they are NOT spirits, they are humans. The difference between a spirits and a humans is that spirits have no flesh and bones and humans do ( Jesus did too).
Report as
Remember Walter, at the crucifiction site everyone forsook Jesus even his disciples. Isn't ironic that the Jews were in hurry to bring him down the cross just like the Romans and Jews were in hurry to put him on the cross? Blood and water gushed out from his sides, this was a sign of LIFE, his legs were not broken because legs would only be benifit to the person if they're still alive. There are many other facters to consider to prove that Jesus was not crucified but im not saying that there was no crucifiction but what im saying is that it was not Jesus but rather someone like Judas who betrayed him and had every reason to be forsaken by God on the cross, right?
Report as
No, I'm not arguing spirits don't eat food. I'm wondering why you say Jesus didn't die. > I see. You don't believe Jesus was put on the cross. Now it makes sense why you say he didn't die. Okay.
Report as
Interesting, I was wondering where you were going with this. There is a gnostic story that states that Jesus was actually a twin and it was his brother that died on the cross. Jesus went on to preach to the nations as far as India.
Report as
Yes Seedy! It may have been the doutbing Thomas or Judas who was the evil brother, the dark side of which Jesus was the light but either way, to die upon a cross brought no salvation or redemption, but only malediction. Thomas may have been a good subtitute for Jesus because he was willing so. He said in his Gospel

"And He (Jesus) took him (Thomas) and withdrew and told him three things. When Thomas returned to his companions, they asked him, What did Jesus say to you? Thomas said to them, If I tell you one of the things which he told me, you will pick up stones and throw them at me; a fire will come out of the stones and burn you up."
Report as
According to the gnostic story his brother was Judas, but not the one that supposed betrayed him. Accordingly there were also apocrypha that states he was married as well to Mary magdellen.

Isn't the Islamic version of Jesus (which is the true one) much much simplier than the Christendom version? In Islam he is the Christ, the word of God, no father but was born to the purriest woman on earth. Jesus and his mother are much more glorified in the Quran then they are in the Bible.

For the stars to align the way its stated in the Bible the date would have been closer to the 2nd week in September. The reason we celebrate His birthday on Dec. 25th is because there was no winter holiday. Halloween was the last holiday in the Fall and there was no holiday until Spring when Easter is celebrated. Unfortunately there is no discussion of stars in the Bible for when Jesus died so Astronomy doesn't help us with the date.

Hey BicGirl, do you think Jesus would want you to call people dummy? Or stupid? Or worthless? You called somebody worthless, but Jesus used to wash the feet of people society deemed worthless. You're not following His example. By the way, it's not spelled dumby, you really should learn how to spell before you call somebody a dummy.
