Do practices (like with do re me fa sol la ti do) to get your voice into full range and ready for hitting any note your range reaches. Also, practice breathing with your stomach by laying flat on your back. After getting used to that, sing scales (the do re me stuff) to practice singing with your stomach and try holding notes as well. Also keep your throat open, not closed. Practice holding a note and making it loud and soft without changing the note. If you're still in school (high school or college) take choir class. It's wonderful help. I used to be an alto but with help and practice from choir, I'm now a soprano. also if you have a piano or keyboard, try matching your voice with the note of the key you press.
