I am a Christian minister and have counseled many cult members exiting cults.
The cult members target anyone who is alone, afraid and feeling unsure. They especially target young adults who are going to college for the first time and feel alone and scared. They also sit at airports, bus stations and low income organizations, to target anyone who is down in their life, to recruit them for membership in their cult.
Once involved in the cult, the initiates are watched by cult members 24/7 and encouraged to disconnect from all family members and friends, as these are seen by cult members as counter productive in reaching a higher spiritual level. The cult provides all of the answers and initiates follow every regulation and rule set down by the cult leader.
I wish to say, unless you are aware of the cult method of operation, almost anyone can be indoctrinated and pulled into a cult by the use of their emotional manipulation. It is quite subtle and very deadly.

Very good people skill. And by people skills I mean they're very manipulative and prey on weak minded people.
cult leaders can easily inject their beliefs in other persons by the use of hypnotism, mostly people than are encouraged to join are people with less knowledge and the youth. i suggest you should not be interested in being involved in a cult because aside from it's against God it will only make you do bad things. regret is always at the end.

By manipulating people emotionally. They create an environment where the leader controls all psychological rewards and punishments, making someone feel hugely obligated emotionally to do whatever the leader says. It's easier for them after they get a few followers, then they can make anyone who starts dissenting feel totally ostracized, not part of the group. . . then, when a dissenting member gets back into brainwashed mode, the environment relaxes. Also, they often create a situation where all news comes from the leader, no outside sources available. This is what the Nazis did on a large scale during WWII, and it works -- if you can't even get an accurate view of reality, who knows what you may wind up believing?
How do they gain "their" hardcore followers? Maybe the same way that Satan tricks people everyday. By being a liar and telling people what they want to hear.
