Should you install a certaineed new roof in winter? what is the lowest temperature you should do an install? (Oregon)

Report as

I, personally, wouldn't install a new roof when the temp is below 40 degrees.

You need to ask this of your local building department (or whoever issues the permits). They have all sorts of charts about construction in cold weather.

The "rule of thumb" was that a roof should never be replaced when the temperature was below 50 degrees. The argument was that to put shingles on when cold would cause them to buckle when warmer weather arrived because of expansion due to the heat and would give a sloppy appearance to the roof.

I would contact the manufacturer and see what they recommend. They will have specs on spacing and a liquid lap sealant that will seal the shingles till they heat up & melt the tar strips.
