why is christmas depressing ?

Report as

I know. I know. If Christmas in your parents home was quite awful, Re-invent your own Christmas with friends. Make plans. Make and give gifts. Include your friends' parents, and they will include you.

It only is if you make it that way. Gather with friends and family- find people to celebrate with.

I'm an atheist and I love Christmas. Jones you should learn to not be judgmental.
Report as
Jones, your answer is offensive and nonsense.

It's a bit strange an atheist enjoys Christmas. Don't you think?
Report as
Why? Atheists can't enjoy gifts, family time, cookies and candy?
Report as
Because Christmas is a Christian holiday. And an atheist is celebrating it. What a curious case.
Report as
Actually it's a pagan holiday. Taken over and re-named by Christians.
Report as
It doesn't matter what it's called, Christians celebrate it because of Jesus' birthday. And isn't pagan a religion? Its still strange you're celebrating a holiday meant for polytheists and theists alike.
Report as
Lol pagan is not a religion, it's a religion category.

At this day in age it's more of a cultural thing than a religious thing. I know people who are other religions who celebrate it still. I know many atheists that celebrate it out of tradition. Most people now days don't even go to church on Christmas, most people don't pray, or think of Jesus. It's just a tradition. Just like Halloween. It's not religious anymore. It used to be pagan as well. The people who celebrate it certainly aren't pagan haha

And it's not Jesus's birthday. Jesus was not born in the winter.
Report as
It's not his birthday? Oh really?
Report as
Yes, really. He was born in the fall.
Report as
Based on what?
Report as
Based on the bible.
Report as
Ok, what verse from the Bible?
Report as
Actually he was born in the summer.
Report as
Ok so far: atheists are celebrating a Christian holiday, Christmas was stolen from pagans, Jesus was born in the fall, the Bible says otherwise; and now he's born in the summer...
I can see why most people on the internet lose faith in humanity.

It can be depressing because it's not what you would have it to be. That's my case too, but we need to be thankful for all the many blessings God gives us just the same. If we look at the cup as half empty we might depress ourselves unnecessarily. Be positive. See Philippians 4:6-8.

I guess it's because there is a lot of pressure on you to be happy and joyful and to raise your expectations on Christmas because of movies and such, but when you compare your life to what your expectations are, you become disappointed thinking you didn't live up to whatever you thought was going to happen.
