If your child was doing awful in school (Grades are 'D's and 'F's) would you keep your child in competive snowboarding?

a girl in my grade (she's not my friend) is really stupid and simply doesn't try in school. she is 8th in the nation for her age group for snowboarding. her parents just don't care that she's getting horrible grades. if this was your child what would you do? keep her in snowboarding or pull her out and have her focus on school? thanks!

As a parent with children, I believe education should come first. I have explained to my kids that a good education is important and you will use reading and math as well as other subjects throughout her life. Her parents should instill in her the importance of school and how it can and will be something she can use all her life. My sons play sports and they know that if their grades are poor, they will not play.

i would pull her out because you might be the greatest snowboarder but what will happen when you injure yourself and can't ride anymore

No way on earth! That would be rewarding your kid for negative behavior!

Good. Your kid may not like it then but will be grateful for it later

It's none of your business, if she's not your friend then stop worrying, focus on your own grades!

Yea. There's a girl in my class who is like that with dance. She's not smart but she thinks she is and she's all snobby about it.

K . first of all. This is not your friend. So why worry? And I really think it's wrong to judge her! So you should really stay out of her bussiness. Just saying. If it was my kid I would totally keep them in snowboarding. She loves it . She oviuosly dosnt love school.

I say take her out of snowboarding. I am a junior and have been playing volleyball since I was in the 4th grade. (I play school season and club) when last year I noticed my grades were somewhere where I didn't like them (had 2 D's) I told my my the night before try outs that I couldn't do club that year.

Kids can play sports all they want but where is that going to get them when I comes to a real life and a real job.

I would say set a standard. If he/she does not get a certain grade on the report card then I would pull he/she out!

Keep them from snowboarding, & make them focus on their grades! If they continue to make bad grades, they could fail the grade they're in.

If it's the only thing your childs doing, and he or she isn't studying or doing anything productive, then, yeah.

If your kid enjoys boarding. Tell him or her that if their grades don't go up by (whenever u get the pre report card) that you will have to quit. May push the kid to work harder and more diligently. :) it would work for me!

Slow the snowboarding down, tell her "if you can snowboard that good, you can do schoolwork that good". She needs to use her snowboarding skills to develope her schoolwork skills. She's not interested in school because she does not "have" to be.
