I have been diabetic for many years and have a "sweet" tooth! My brother led me to Splenda (sugar substitute). It tastes like sugar, but doesn't make your sugar count go up. You can use it to cook or bake with (they have brown sugar too). For me, ADDITIVES make my blood sugar go up. For instance, ice cream. Many of the Brand Names have alot of additives. Haagen Dasz is mostly natural and is a really good ice cream. When I crave sugar (this takes time to adapt to) I eat a piece of fruit or make toast with a diabetic butter and sprinkle some Splenda on it. Or I eat some kind of protein. It takes years to find other things that will satisfy your sweet hunger without annihilating your blood sugar count. But there are ways to do it.
