Is it better to trim or file a rabbit's nail/claws?

Every time I pick up the bunny, she scratches me because her claws are too long. Would it be better and less painful for her to trim or file?

I don't think even the most tame rabbit is going to let you work over it's nails with a file - rabbits have sensative feet and don't usually like having them handled or being held to have them trimmed, small animal clippers are the better option. If you are not comfortable or experienced trimming rabbit nails you should ask your vet to help so you don't hurt your rabbit or get scratched up. When trimming you need to be able to see the quick of the nail bed where blood vessels are so you don't trim the nail too short and cause a bloody, painful mess for your rabbit. Care books and online advice show techniques for swaddling rabbits to trim their nails. I have trouble with my rabbits nails also and am looking for a vet to trim them.

Unless you are good. Bring Bugsy to a pet groomer.

We have 2 rabbits, we lay them on their back and rub their cheeks and head until they are calm, then we clip them, it takes 2 people, one to hold the bun and one to clip. If you can't calm your bun wrap him in a towel and work on one foot at a time.

The easiest way to trim bunny nails is to lay the bunny on their back, and gently put their ears between you legs. Having their ears tucked between your knees naturally makes the bunny feel like they cannot kick and squirm. It's much safer than trying to hold them still and you don't need another persons help. It's also a good idea to get special nail clippers specially made for bunnies! It makes the job quicker, easier, and less stressful for your bunny (:
