Speeding up cat introductions?
Okay so I just moved in with my boyfriend yesterday. We've been planning this for a while and we both have one cat. His is a 3 year old female and mine is a 10 year old male. Since I moved into his place we set up the spare bedroom for my cat so as not to make his cat think she is being taken over. We thought they would at least tolerate each other because they are both fairly laid back but the female seems so afraid of my cat! She won't go near the door to the spare bedroom and when my cat starts meowing because he is lonely, his cat hides behind the couch looking at the hall with big eyes. I rubbed a different sock on each of them and swapped them to see what would happen. My cat couldn't care less... He simply sniffed it for a second and walked away. His cat sniffed it, hissed at it, and then ran away to hide behind the couch again like it was an attack sock! Is there any way I can help her feel more comfortable? I hate that my cat has to be stuck by himself in the spare bedroom buy I don't want to traumatize his car either!
Side note: I have 2 feliway dispensers, one in the spare bedroom with my cat and one leading into the hall where the door to the bedroom is. I also have the spray. His cat doesn't seem to react to any of these. Please help so I can at least get them to tolerate each other so we can all be one, big, semi-tolerant family!!
