Make sure your Mac has the latest iTunes then use the cable your iPhone came with and plug it into your phone then the USB end into your Mac. Your phone will sync to your Mac. You must load music onto iTunes then you can drag the songs to your iPhones name (in the left side of your computer screen). ITunes also has a great help section that will walk you through it.
Assuming you have iTunes open and your iPhone plugged in, you can either have your entire library transferred or create & edit playlists and check their boxes under the Music Tab while your iPhone's icon is selected/highlighted in the list on the far left.
Since your iTunes won't automatically sync to your new iPhone you will have to do it manually. This happens because your music has once been synced to your old iPhone. Therefore iTunes will ask your permission to erase the library from the old phone and add it to your new phone. So: 1. You open iTunes on your laptop and click on your iPhone's name on the left hand side. After the page opens on the top you will see "Summary", "Info", "Apps", "Tones", "Music", "Movies" ... etc. 2. Click on "Music". Put a check mark in the field "SYNC MUSIC" and choose "Entire Music Library" on the drop down menu below. 3. Click on "SYNC" on the bottom right of the screen Wait until it has finished syncing and you're all set.

STEP - BY – STEP !!! Your iPhone will NOT automatically sync unless you instruct it to: here is how to do that. No.1 plug phone into your mac by the cable. No.2 Open iTunes in your mac. No.3 Click on your iPhone's name on the top left or top right hand side on the iTunes page on your mac screen. No.4 After the page opens on the top you will see "Summary", "Info", "Apps", "Tones", "Music", "Movies" ... etc. No.5 Click on "Music". No 6 Put a tick mark in the field "SYNC MUSIC" and choose "Entire Music Library" on the drop down menu below. No.7 Click on “APPLY” at bottom right of screen. THIS MAKES IT KICK OFF THE SYNC PROCESS!! After that is just says “SYNC” in bottom right. It will NOT wipe your library - it will compare them and just add the tracks you have added recently. No.8 Check your iPhone for the new artists or new tracks to see they have been transferred - in mine they are in 'Music' and not in 'iTunes'. I guess from now on my mac and phone will sync whenever I plug the phone in by cable. The lovely instruction writers at Apple do sometimes write a 1-2-3 procedure, but miss out basics like: "connect it by cable". Hope my 1-8 steps help. Have fun!
