Why do people dream?

I rarely dream when I sleep, but when I do I
Iove it, but why do people dream? Like what causes the events that take place in dreams?

You always dream, but you don't always remember dreaming.
Dreams are the subconscious mind at work, sorting through "stuff." Dream can be made up of anything you've ever experienced.
Often, dreams represent things that are currently happening in your life. Whatever those things are, your mind may "pull up" old memories, experiences & things you're familiar with, as it tries to work out your current problems. That's one reason dreams can be so weird & confusing -- the events & symbols in dreams can come from combinations of different times in your life.
Everything you've ever experienced is stored in your brain & when you dream, your mind randomly picks through that stuff & pieces it together. Dreams are kind of like puzzles. Sometimes you can make sense of them, relate them to you waking life; at other times... well, they're just plain strange. :)

I always say dreaming is the way our brain files away the stuff we do while awake. A funny story. Animals also dream. We had a dog. She was sleeping near me. Her legs started moving. Suddenly she woke up, looked towards the room my mom was in and ran under the bed like she did something bad.

I love my dreams too. I have very beautiful, but at the same time very weird dreams. I am usually in places I have never seen or been to before, however I am vaguely familiar with the places in my dreams. Why? I have dreamt of flying over buildings, seeing beautiful, but strange architectural designs. I have met strangers, but felt I have known them all my life, crowed megapolis-tic beautifully designed malls, seen realistic seeming UFO occurrences, post apocalyptic settings, and often times haphazardly constructed edifices, like stairways that lead to huge drops in tall buildings and I have to jump and climb onto the next flight of stairs, risking falling to my death, but not even worrying, to get to the next level, beautiful oceans, streams, ponds, blue skies, and often times mazes inside buildings or when driving on streets, or I'm searching for something or someone. It's cool. What does this all mean? Well it might be that our dreams connect us to the parallel universes some physicists are claiming exist. In our dreams we somehow trade places with one of our infinite selfs. Seeing through their eyes and experiencing what they may consider to be mundane in their world, yet when they are in our universe, they may be in awe of some of our "actualities." It's an idea.
