I heard what sounded like a bark outside. At first it was close, barking twice back to back, moved away barking twice again. Fox? Coyote?

It was a short higher pitched bark. I doubt it was a dog as we live in a 250 acre woods.

Could be coyotes. I hear a pack of them every so often howling and barking and it is more of a high pitch bark

It wasn't a howl, or a pack. Just one.

It could either be cyotes or a run away dog, but you don't have to worry because both are pretty harmless.

Sounds to me like coyotes. Coyotes are becoming as common as deer are now. I even heard rumor that someone was breeding the coyotes to kill off all the deer because there are just too many deer

Bet it's a neighbors' dog.

Guessing coyote, maybe a domestic dog. Or a dogman trying to lure you outside to investigate so it can snap you up for supper!
