The greatest crisis that faces civilization at this point of time is people losing faith in themselves, people losing hope and people forgetting to help, share and give to the happiness of others with empathy. It gives me great satisfaction and happiness when I am able to encourage a fellow human being to have faith in himself; not to lose hope and deal with life with great empathy. To me the greatest qualities that can take a human being anywhere in the world to do good for others and self are a) Simplicity b) Patience c) Compassion.
Global warming. If we continue current patterns of energy use, we will alter the Earth's ecosystem so greatly that most species will become extinct. And there is a good chance that we will also be extinct. Even if some humans survive, our technological civilization will be completely wiped out.
2 Timothy 3:1-5 explains the crisis' that we face today. Some examples are "lovers of money, boastful.... having no natural affection, not open to any agreement.... having an appearance of godliness but proving false to it's power." These are just some of the many issues we face today. However there is a beautiful promise at Revelation 21:4 that God has set out for us, a life of peace and no suffering at all.
I think the greatest crisis we face is we need to use less energy to raise the living standard for many in the world. As we grow food, ship goods, get educated or have fun, we use energy. If we could find a way to grow and transport food more efficiently, we can feed more. If we could treat and pump water more efficiently, more would have access to clean water, reducing water related disease. If we could transport people more efficiently, we could provide better access to education and jobs..
I would lable this question as the question of year if not of the ages. After reading some of the answers to this question I determined that my first choice as "the greatest crisis" facing us had to be " Stupidity! " Think about it with this analogy: Take the often debated argument over gun control. The Anti-gun left argues that "Military style Assault Rifles with large capacity magazines are the culprit that leads to so many senseless deaths in school, Mall, and Theatre shootings" The Pro gun side counters the left's argument with "guns don't kill people! People kill people with guns of every brand, make, and model. As well as with hammers, knives, baseball bats among other things . Just because the people that commit those crimes are mentally incompetent doesn't mean they are stupid. They know those facilities are designated gun free zones and they are less likely to face any resistance. The Left blames one, just one of the many diverse inanimate objects that are used to murder people The argument that we have to ban an inanimate object to protect people from be murdered is specious! That would be like banning the Quran or the Bible, two inanimate objects, because people that are mentally incompetent or have misinterpreted the meaning of the text. Then they decide that they will take it upon themselves to be judge, jury, and executioner, and go around blowing people up, cutting off heads, and stoning people to death. If that isn't the definition of stupidity then what is?
