Two chemical terms (3,641 and 1,913 letters long) have appeared in the Guinness Book of World Records. They were withdrawn because they have never been used by chemists, and there is no theoretical limit to the length of possible legitimate chemical terms. A DNA molecule could have a name of over 1,000,000,000 letters if it was written out in full. This word has appeared in the American Chemical Society#039;s Chemical Abstracts and is thus considered by some to be the longest real word.
There is a word in the English language but it's not in a dictionary so it's disputed if it even is a word but it has 189,819 letters in it. The longest word in the English language in a dictionary is Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. 45 letters
There is no simple answer. There's always gonna be some exotic chemical name that nobody can actually pronounce. For a long time it WAS antidisestablishmentarianism, so I'm not surprised at how many people memorized that fun fact ages ago and think it's still the record holder. But whatever it is, the answer's not gonna be as fun and/or straight-forward as you thought when you asked the question.
