There is a trick done by flight attendants. Get a paper (not plastic) cup, like coffee cup size. Put a wad of paper towels or a couple of napkins crumpled up in the bottom of it. Next add a small amount of very hot water, enough to soak the paper towels. Make sure there is not a lot of excess water in the cup. Hold the cup firmly up to your ear until the cup cools down. The steam from the hot water should ease the pressure and open the ear pressure up. Just be careful, the water needs to be hot enough to make steam, but you do not want to scald yourself.
