It depends a great deal on how much having a particular level of status means to you, and by you, I mean you only, and not the people around you, especially your family members. Ultimately, you have to live a life that makes you happy to be emotionally stable. If you spend your life only making other people happy and forget about yourself, you will have missed your personal journey and live a life of regret.

Low social status can be very stressful and lead to poor emotional stability.
Extremely high social status can lead to arrogance and isolation. If people don't tell you "no" sometimes, it can lead to bad choices (see Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston as examples) and the fallout can cause emotional instability (or accidental death).
