What does "Xing" written on streets stand for?

is it a indicator for zebra/pedestrian traffic ahead?

"Xing" written on streets stands for a crossing of some kind. Some will say "PED Xing" which means Pedestrian Crossing ahead. Others will say "School Xing" which means a student crossing is ahead.
