Why do they call New York City the Big Apple?
That "nickname" was coined in the 1920's when horse racing was a huge past time event, the prize for the winner believe it or not was an apple and that is how it got the name. You would go to the "big apple" for a horse race.
I think because its where the apple company was made? IDK
I've always been told because there was a time NYC was busking with little businesses, Had the most beautiful fruit stands, with the most delectable apples around c:
because it is big and they sell a lot of apples ;-# i think i got that wrong lol.
Only tourists and tour guides call New York the "Big apple".
