Can you text to ANY phone with iMessage on the iPod touch 4th generation

PLEASE ANSWER ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You cannot use the iMessage application on the iPod Touch 4th Generation to text to any phone. This application is configured to send text messages to any iPhone, iPad or iPod that runs iOS 5.

Nope, sorry. Its pathetic, you can only chat with other Apple devices: iPhone, iPod, iPad, and Mac.
