In America ... there's a growing sense of "entitlement" ... due to decades of government promises and programs ... even the courts have just about said that people have a "right" to government handouts (when governments have tried to cut some "social" programs due to budget reasons).
Now ... what that REALLY means ... is that (example) *I* have a "right" to *your* earnings. So why not just repeal the laws against theft?
Answer: Because it's "okay" for the government to take money from me at gunpoint, and give it to you ... after taking their cut, of course. And it would be "bad" for you to cut out the middle man (government) and take it yourself.
It's usually because their parents raised them that way. They often coddle children, and when they grow up it teaches them that life will just hand them things, when in all reality you have to work for what you want.
It's because people are spoiled from birth until death, at least in the U.S. We are very self-righteous and feel that we deserve everything. It's based off of this and things like this why people think life will just work out as they pipe-dream it to. My own sister thinks that once she gets out of high school she'll be able to get a perfect job, meet the perfect guy, and not have to work for a bit of anything. And after she gets married she just plans to sit on her butt all day and let her man make all the money while she spends it. She never even pays attention to class, and literally got a 53 (far below failing) in ROTC. People like this only waste resources, yet the country is full of them, which is pretty sad.
