To admit your wrong in the situation. Example: he/she did something wrong. You laid into him/her, and said some things, it escalated. Your bad for handling that way, your bad for saying those things. In any relationship, you have to become a professional forgiver! Think about it...you are ether heading to oneness, or isolation.
remind each other of good time you spent together. How awful to be mad at each other while you can have good times like you did in the past. Go out and forget about everything ells but your happiness and enjoy the company.
Just come around right away and apologize, even if you weren't completely in the wrong, just say you don't want to fight, it is a waste of time and pointless, life is too short for petty arguments and stubbornness.
