Can cops lie about having a warrant out on you?

i have to make a statement and i asked if i have a warrant and 1 said no n the other cop said they cant tell me

yes, if you bite their trap quickly without thinking. don't come with them if they don't have any warrant for you because it will be an illegal arrest specially if they lack evidence. cops can only arrest you without a warrant if you've committed a serious crime and your wanted for it like, murder, rape, drug pushing and etc. cops can also arrest you without a warrant if your caught by them doing a crime even though how not serious it is.

Cops should not lie about having a warrant for your arrest. In your example, I don't see where the cop lied. The person who said he can't tell you did not say yea or nay when you asked about a warrant. That said, realize that cops are humans like the rest of us.

The police are not supposed to lie about having a warrant. They are supposed to produce the warrant in case there is a particular search, seizure or arrests conducted. Seizures, searches, and arrests performed without a valid warrant are considered presumptively wrong, and any evidence taken without a warrant will be restrained unless a court finds that the search was justifiable under the circumstances.

As a practical matter, cops can lie To YOU about pretty much anything. BUT they can't take you into custody on a non-existent warrant, without committing false arrest. Which would be kind of a career ender.

Cops have the right by law to lie to you. So remember the rights you have, like the right to remain silent.

Although you would think, above everyone else, cops shouldn't be able to lie, but that's not the case. Cops can lie about anything if they think it will get a confession or information out of someone. On the other hand, if a citizen lies it can be held against them in court. It's a disgusting and unfair double standard. The only warrant they can't lie about is a search warrant, although if you're stupid enough to invite them in, they can search your house if they decide they see anything "unlawful". So don't invite them into your home, allow them to search your car without a search warrant or question you without an attorney present. I had my car torn apart & was left to put it back together (my back seat was completely taken out and everything taken out of the trunk) on the side of a dark, unbusy road in a state I wasn't familiar with. After that, and learning they could lie to get what they want, I haven't trusted cops. That, and the cops in Arizona are incompetent. I've had a OBVIOUS drug dealer living next door for 11 years and when I tried to get him shut down I was threatened by the police that they would press charges for him against me for harassing him! Not kidding!
