I made a boo boo :-/ I wasn't thinking and I walked my pooch on a sidewalk where salt had been laid for de-icing.. (Please read details!)

He was clearly in discomfort... He was limping and shaking his paws. I quickly wiped them off and he has since stopped limping, but I'm worried that he might still be in pain. Should I do anything else? Or should I leave him be? I'll never make this mistake again!! I feel SO bad! Thanks for your help!

Hi, hailissa. I would put him in the bathtub, use shampoo and rub his paws real good. That way, you could make sure that you got all the de-icing material off all of his paws and you can even go further up his leg. It will also get it out between the pads that you may have not been able to get to.

Thanks for the idea!! Unfortunately, he's afraid of water--believe it or not!!--so it might be a little tricky, but it give it a shot! Thanks again!

Honey, you're welcome. Hopefully, you can get something worked out. Maybe you could get one paw at a time in a plastic pan or something.

Wet a thin cloth with warm water and carefully wash his feet, getting between the foot pads. No soap necessary, just make sure there aren't granules stuck on his feet. He may lick his feet a little and I wouldn't be too concerned about that unless he doesn't stop. Inspect his feet gently a couple of times over the next day or so; they should be fine. If not, call your vet. It's possible that he might have a chemical burn, but it sounds like you took quick action and so I'm betting that he'll be ok.
