You need to train yourself to focus all your attention on the other person. Really listen to what they are saying and doing then you'll spend less or no time worrying about how you are coming across to them! I believe everyone has a level of insecurity and with alot of practice you can exude confidence and find joy interacting with others! :)
Well i still have that problem today sometimes. but a great way is to have someone "watching your back" when interacting with others, and when you get comfortable enough with the other person(s) you can be with them alone and from there its an open friendship :) but that's just me.

before i am in the same case with you, but now i have got rid of it. because now i always take part in group activity, which make me more and more outgoing and confident. practice makes perfect, and there is no shortcut. good luck!
