What are some good reading tips?

I am a sophomore in high school and I'm in this class to help me read and stuff. Apparently my reading fluency is not that's good and I already know I'm not good at comprehending a book. Especially if its not interesting. Anyway, If I take this test then I can get out of it. Please give me any tips to help me.

Look at each word carefully and do not just blank out, meaning do not just not pay attention to the words. Do not skip parts of the book, it might be important. If you don't know a word look at the words around it and put the best meaning it to it. After a page, just think about what the page was about. Then put it together after you read the next page. If you do that for a long time, you will get used to the habit and it will become faster. Hope it helped. :)

I think it's really helpful to annotate as you read--in other words, underline and make notes about your thoughts and reactions to the text in the margins. That helps you remember what was important or what the main points were in the text, making it easier to "read actively" and stay engaged while reading, even if it is "boring."

Your fluency will get better the more you read. I've seen people start high school and barely able to read the word is and they practice and by the time they graduate they read will so just keep practicing. When your fluency isn't good it is because you are taking more time to read each word and that is because you just need to keep practicing and rereading a short story to get faster at recognizing the words. It will also help you with comprehension if you have a purpose for reading. So here is the purpose. Read only a paragraph then ask yourself 2 or 3 questions about that paragraph. If you are unable to or unable to answer them, then you didn't understand what you read so only reread that paragraph so you don't have to reread the whole entire book. It's good that you are asking this question. Proud of you girl.
