What are the charges I have to consider when buying an apartment?

expenses aside from the asking price?

those are good and there's a damage cost that you pay but get back if there are no damages... I don't think there is any association fees

A security deposit, yes I thought you were buying an apartment not renting....don't count on getting that back...unless you have notarized pics of any damage when you move in....I've never gotten one back, and I leave a place better than when I moved in...I had a landlord charge me for nail holes when I hung pictures in the existing nail holes..couldn't prove they weren't mine....he charged me for a "scrape" on the driveway when I wasn't the only one using the driveway...it would take a lawsuit to get back, not worth it and they know that...so cover your but as much as you can and you might get it back..take pics of everything when you get it, and document everything.

Food, and all of your regular monthly bills, like phone, cable, internet, hydro, etc. Plus the monthly bill of HOA!

When buying an apartment the HOA fee will change and go up. In some cases quite a bit consider all of the amenities in the community also the type of neighborhoods surrounding you before signing for purchase. If your leasing it's diffrent.
