How does the moon effect the earth?Besides tides, or stuff to do with the water.

My science teacher told us about how the moon affects the water, but us? This question may sound dumb, but that's besides the point. I love books, but I can't find any about the moon at my school library!

Yup gravitational pull helps us not get smashed on the face of the earth. Try to follow me on this... The centrifugal gravity of the Earth (the pull to the center of the Earth) Is balanced out by the centrifugal gravitational force of the moon, so we have just the right gravitational pull both ways! the moon helps us alot

THANK YOU!!!! My favorite thing about science is the solar system. Mainly the planets, Earth itself, the moon, and the sun! I love the study of the Earth and the solar system so much that I want to be a geologist or an astronamer!

No this is nonsense!

Absolute and total nonsense. It this were true, everyone would fly off the planet whenever the moon was in a quarter phase. Total rubbish.

Lunar and solar eclipses are the only thing I can think of. Honestly, the moon is not that important unless it comes to water like your teacher said. Funny, I just learned the same exact thing this past week!

One guy said gravity, and like I told him, while typing the question it totally slipped my mind!

Yeah, I automatically associate gravity with the tides, seeing as it's what creates the tidal bulge...but that is very true. I didn't know that moon affected climate as well! That's awesome.

The moon's gravitational pull can change geological events since the earth is influenced by the moon and will move slightly towards it causing a wobbling effect. This can sometimes affect climate, which everything that lives depends on.

And on a sillier note, it helps populate our planet. Think of a full moon shining over a lake on a warm summer's night ... is there anything more romantic than that?

The term looney comes from lunar or moon. A full moon makes some people act bizarre and looney and can create a lunatic

There are old wives tales about the moon affecting people, but there is no evidence that this is true. Basically, other than tides, the moon doesn't have any effect on the planet.

The gravity of the moon stabilizes the earths tilt, and wobble, thus allowing for the seasons, winter and summer.
