I have yellow flames in my log lighter; do I need a larger hole in the orifice or larger holes on the pipe to get a blue flame?

To get blue flames, you will have to open the holes so that they become larger. This will allow more air to the burner and it will produce blue flames. This happens when air mixes with the fuel. Once you adjust the shutter the problem will be solved.
