What is the purpose of sleeveless undershirts (for men)?

What do they have that other undershirts don't? What makes them popular?

Just tanktops guys like to wear under shirts and stuff cause it's more comfortable and what not

Well like the ones in sports are for cooling them down their like silky material

i rarely wear undershirts of any kind, but when i do they are the sleeveless kind. I wear them when the shirt I'm wearing over it is uncomfortable and itchy. it's kind of a buffer shirt without making me too hot
