How to fatten a starved cat?
We rescued a starved 4 year old male cat. He is a very big boned guy (they think half Maine Coon) and probably should weigh 15-20 pounds. When the shelter finished tube feeding him, he was up to 6.5 pounds. Just unbelievably skinny, he weighs 8.2 pounds now and has not gained any weight in the 2 weeks we have had him. I free feed Science Diet kitten kibble and am trying various kitten wet foods to see what he likes. The shelter said to steer away from fish, but he seems to like it best. Hes not throwing up and has a decent, not great appetite. The poor guy has no muscle do to starvation. He ate house plants and drank from toilets to survive. The shelter said his blood panel was normal. What weight gain should I expect? What can I feed him without hurting him or making him sick?
