Do you need magnesium citrate for colonoscopy if having diarrhea for a week?

91 year old man in hospital with heart disease . suffering from vomiting and diarrhea . Given magnesium citrate before colonoscopy. Dies. Was it necessary to give him a bowel cleanser after not eating for a week? Did the citrate lessen his heart activity?

I know that the procedure for a colonoscopy is to clean out the colon so that it will be totally empty before they start. However, I don't know if maybe they should have done the procedure without controlling the diarrhea first and getting his heart somewhat stabilized. You may want to consult with an attorney. Hope this helps.

Necessary. The colon must be completely clean. The prep is the worst part. Good luck

I think the colon is clean when you haven't eaten for over a week!
