You've got o be kidding! In private with a belt? That is a good way to turn a bratty 6 year old into a violent and distrusting 16 year old. Do not spank, spanking doesn't help solve behavioral problems, it simply represses them, and creates an atmosphere of violence, distrust, and a vicious cycle of anger between yourself and child. If all appropriate measures aren't working, consider taking the child to a therapist. Spanking a child never solves behavior, it is a lazy fix that many defend by misquoting the Bible "Spare the rod, and spoil the child" which IS NOT in the Bible!! The Bible verse is "Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him." The verse is about correction, and direction, as the aforementioned "rod" was a symbol for authority, a mighty staff, not a baseball bat to beat your kid with.
