There are several aspects of this needing to be considered. First that there is NO distinct evidence to support a connection between Modern Freemasonry and the historical Knights Templar. There is an appendant body within Freemasonry York Rite named after the Knights Templar. The York Rite requires its members to defend the Christian faith (symbolically to the death). Now there are a minority of Masons that feel there is a great deal of circumstantial evidence that supports a lineage (I am one of them) based upon certain aspects within Masonic ritual (which I won't specifically talk about here. Not because of secrecy rules but for lack of time & space) A good author is John J Robinson, his book "Born in Blood" Understand that this is not a common theory held by many masons. If you are genuinely curious, look up some books for reference. Just realize that you may not fully understand all the points unless you are a Master Mason. Source: I am a 32* Freemason.
