How come when people are older than you they don't like to Acknowledge that you have the right answer to their question?:/ (not ask.com)

I've had this happen a couple of times with my older brothers, dad. We would be sitting around family and friend wise, someone would ask a question and I would chime in with an answer no body would reply to it then just a few seconds later someone would say the exact same thing and get praise for it (like it was there answer and I didn't say anything) same wording and everything I've learned to kind of blow it off, or say your welcome when they say thank you:p but sometimes it does get annoying. So every now and then I just won't answer and the question is unanswered lol is this just an older person thing?

Hi Ziggyy!

I think a lot of times older people think that experience equals wisdom and do not realize that just because you are younger does not mean that you may have more experience than the older people around you in a particular situation. It also does not mean that you do not have more knowledge on a specific subject. I think there are older people in this world that value knowledge and experience and do not judge the source of these things by the contributor's age, sex, race etc, but many people do.

I think young people are not given enough credit in many cases. I remember being there and feeling the same way you do. Just remember when you get older how you felt and hopefully your son or daughter, niece or nephew won't have to experience the same thing :)

Because they don't want to admit that your smarter than them. It can embarrass someone who is older than you to say that your answer is right and their's is wrong, because they are older and should, therefore be wiser and know more.

My son and my husband do the same thing to me.
I feel invisable. This problem is not age specific. You can be rude at any age.
Lucky for me I know i am no dummy.

Sometimes they can get intimidated or pushed out because you are right, remember that age does not always equal wisdom. People can feel intimidated and brush you off, just remember that if you know that you are right not to let what older people say make you doubt your self and what you know. Who knows they might just end up eating their own words in the future.

Because of the saying "with age comes wisdom" so therefore everyone thinks that because your young, your stupid. Theyre wrong of course but some young people are smarter than some old people, I go through the same thing.

I've been answering a lot of questions tonight with a smart-alecky response. With your question I'll be serious: If YOU are being a smart-ass that might be one reason why. I bet your smart enough to know when you're being a smart-ass and when is the appropriate time/place/person to be a wiseguy with. Otherwise read all the responses prior to mine.

Yes I'm a goofball:p I also know when to be Serious. I've found my self being talked over some times too:/ I'm the youngest in my family but that shouldn't mean anything. I've actually had people ask me why I don't voice what I think about a subject that they are talking about when I have a good point, but I figure what is the point if it's going to be lost in the wind lol. :) ya know? I've kind of developed a hard shell towards that kind of thing. I've actually had people that it was a shame that I feel like I have to just sit by and listen. I have a good relationship with my family I don't know what their problem is
