Can i get fired from my job because i did not properly fill out a log book.

The village pays me to clean the volunteer fire department that i belong too. Members of my fire department are trying to get me fired because the times on my time sheet does not match the times and dates in the fire department log book. The log book is for the firefighters to sign in to every time they are at the firehouse so the chief knows who was there and when they were there. The log book is separate from my duties as the custodian. The dates and times on my time sheet does not match the dates and times i signed into the log book. They are trying to make it so that i get paid only for the times that i was signed in to the log book. Is this legal and is this something they can fire me for?

It wouldn't be legal since it is only for the fire fighters. If the times don't match because you are cleaning then no. They shouldn't be able to fire you for that. Make sure you let the chief know. Ask them do they want you to start signing the log when you clean also.

The chief is not on my side for this. He is going against me. Our fire department has by laws and standard operating procedures. There is nothing written in there in regards to the log book. So therefore there are no rules about the log book. Second i work for the village not for the fire company. The fire company is having a meeting to discuss this issue and to determine if i will be fired. I feel that this is not up to the fire company to decide because the fire company does not pay me, the village pays me. The log book does not refer to my job, thats why i have separate time sheets. If anything they can only penalize me for not signing into the log book when i am there and the penalties should have no impact on my employment.
