Make sure, first of all, the dog doesn't have any medical conditions. It is actually quite rare for dogs to get constipated; they are more likely to get diarrhea. When was the last time you brought your pet in for a check-up? Was everything normal? However, some dogs just have sensitive digestive systems and can get an upset stomach every now and then (my dog does.) Here are some tips: - Switch to a natural, hollistic, or organic dog food. High processed foods can be more difficult to break down. - Fish oil, when given daily, can help with almost any problem your dog has. It boosts metabolism, helps with allergies, is good to help organs function properly such as the heart and brain, and makes your dog's coat shinier. - Make sure your dog always has access to fresh, clean water, and make sure he/she gets oppurtunities to relieve themselves throughout the day. - Put a lid on your trash can. Dog + garbage = very sick dog :( - Give a spoonful of canned pumpkin to your dog daily with a meal (but not canned pumpkin pie!). It helps regulate their digestive system. Plain yogurt helps, too. It's digestive enzymes can work wonders. Just don't get yogurt with colors, flavors, or fruit in it. Cottage cheese can work just as well. - Give him/her a belly rub! It's free, easy, and worth a try! - Try out different products. These are some things that might be useful: http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/products/Only-Natural-Pet-GI-Support/999044.aspx http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3307+106+718&pcatid=718 If nothing seems to work, you can purchse enzyme capsules from your vet. Good luck!
You can help your dog go poop by feeding him some mineral oil. A teaspoon given with their food can help lubricate their bowels which will enable them to poop. Also make sure they are getting plenty of fresh water everyday.
