The check engine light on my truck sometimes comes on, then goes off, should I be worried?

The truck has 82,000 miles on it, and the light comes on, stays on for maybe a day or a few hours, then stays off. I was told that this is relatively normal for the trucks age/mileage, but now I'm not too sure. It gets regular tuneups and oil changes.

On some vehicles the light come on when you need fluids. What you have is probably an intermittent problem. The next time it comes on stop at Advance Auto and get them to run the code. It's free and they will tell you exactly what it is.

Or just shoot the truck with a gun

What, are you kidding me? That is an undignified way to put a vehicle out of its misery! Besides my truck is a good girl; she still has plenty of "p-ss-n-vinegar". She does eat a lot of gasoline though. I try to tell that, but she says back to me: "I wouldn't eat so much if you filled me with premium, instead of regular unleaded" I tell you, that truck is full of it, and I aint talking gasoline :D

One thing we used to do for a check engine light is, disconnect the battery for 15 minutes. It resets the computer and it might make it go away.

Mine comes on when I don't tighten the gas cap enough. Re-tighten and the light turns off.
