When my phone heats up my rubber phone case heats up and starts to smell funky should I be worried

That's a new one on me. Back in my day the term "burning rubber" meant squeeling tires, not talking on your phone till it melts.

The rubber case naturally heats up and expands as the phone heats up and therefore there is nothing to worry about. The smell that is given off is generally associated with heated rubber. To get rid of the smell, you should remove the rubber case and allow it to cool off in some fresh air. If you are truly worried, you can opt for a leather or plastic case.
