Apple has always provided a more elegant user-interface than PCs, because they tightly controlled the software to work seamlessly with their hardware (in concept anyway). Also, they took chances on innovation that the PC folks were only quick to implement AFTER it had been successful.
I've owned an Apple for years and it was the biggest mistake ever. I purchased a few for friends and family also. Unless you are an artist or musician, its just a waste of a machine. Viruses are increasing on Macs. The firewall is being penetrated more and more. My 1 1/2 year old Apple had to have the hard drive replaced because of it. Hackers are finding it fun to hack Macs because of their supposed superior virus protection. And they are right, Apple will fix it, so long as you have their warranty which thank goodness I bought. Granted PC WAS behind the 8 ball on innovation, they've still got what you need and then some. My biggest problem with Mac is the games, programs and softwares that are not compatible with it. There is too much I can't do with the Mac. They forget to tell you that part.
