What is so special about the Mona Lisa

Report as

There are several things about the Mona Lisa that are interesting.
For one, if you were to cover one side of her face, she looks like she is smiling. If you were to cover the other, she looks like she is not smiling.
Another thing to note is the background. The imagery doesn't perfectly line up the way it normally should, denoting that either it was unfinished, or the artist (Leonardo Di Vinci) intended this.
It is a very beautiful work of art, and the style is very typical or Leonardo, which captures the eyes and the emotion very well, and defined a movement of art.

It's one of the most expensive paintings in the world. One of Leo's best works. And even though it doesn't look like she's smiling, she is subtly, and yet the painting is one of the most beautiful and unique paintings ever :)

The eyes always follow you

Actually lots of painting and statues have eyes that "follow" you. This is an optical illusion achieved by painting the pupils perfectly in the center of the eye. However, Mona Lisa does not actually have this trait. What she does have are hidden letters surrounding her eyes that are not visible to the naked eye (magnifying glass is needed at least), which some speculate has a secret code. Most scholars think it is LV, for his initials, and 149 plus one more digit for the year, sometime in the 1490's.

Here are other interesting facts:
1. Da Vinci forgot to paint the eyebrows.
2. Original title was La Gioconda
3. Da Vinci painted this for a client, with the client's wife as model. But the client didn't like the painting and this was stored in the toilet for many months.
4. Mona Lisa became a title of a popular love song.....may also pertain to battle field hospital patients with the line..."they just lie there, and they die there..." (LOL)

I heard Leonardo fell in love with it and that's why he didn't give it up. Not that she didn't like it. Idk though!
