Give up something that is a bad habit, or is bad for you, that you enjoy. Some thing that represents a sacrifice to you. This challenge will remind you of your need for the Savior that sacrificed His life for your sins (the meaning of Easter). By the end of the Lenten season you are better off for struggling to give this up, and have deepened your relationship with the Lord, as you turn to Him and depend on Him to help you overcome your bad habit/ challenge. I have a bad habit of staying up way too late. It affects lots of other things/people in my life, yet I continually do it. So for Lent, I am going to set a bedtime for myself and ask the Lord to give me the desire to do what is right. So, I am giving up "staying up late every night" (and chocolate) for Lent. If you knew me, you would know what a BIG sacrifice this is for me, seriously. (don't laugh :-)) Let us know what you choose.
My belief is that Lent is a time to take away something that is pulling me away from God: something that I feel I depend on when I know I am supposed to completely depend on Him. I personally am giving up facebook; but the important thing is whatever you choose: when you find yourself wanting to do whatever you promised not to do, take that time and pull out your Bible, or pray. Make it a Lenten season that brings you closer to Him. God Bless.
You don't really have to give up anything, but I'm giving up every drink except water and all fast food. I'm also going to boost my excercise regimen from once a week to twice a week. You could maybe promise to DO something instead of give something up...?
