An herb is a plant that is valued for flavor, scent, medicinal or other qualities other than its food value. So some examples would be basil, oregano, thyme, mint, lemon balm, and sage :) I hope this helps.
Herbs (there are many, but here are some): Chives (yes), garlic, angelica rosemary, peppermint, bleeding heart, nasturtium, cow's slip, water cress, catnip, foxglove, feverfew, chamomile, sunflower, dog rose, lungwort, St. John's wort, sweet rocket, lupine, woad, licorice, dandelion, sweet violet, columbine, catmint, borage, winter cress, summer cress, tansy, yew, cinnamon, chervil, allspice, aloe vera, Balm of Gilead, bay, clove, clover, coltsfoot, fern, fleabane, figwort, dill, daffodil, daisy, hawthorn, hazel, heather, horsetail, houseleek, juniper. You can look up on ask.com and other sites, "Complete List of Herbs", and "Herb Dictionary" to find more, or you can go to your nearby public library to find herb books and their uses, etc. Remember, while some herbs we use often in meals, others, are poisonous. Learn about them before you even touch them. Foxglove, for example, while it may be used in medicine to treat heart problems, are poisonous otherwise.
