why does car shift a little hard from 1st to 2nd gear

car was shifting perfectly fine. then had to change upper and lower intake gaskets. got that problem fixed and took for a test drive. all of a sudden it shifted hard going from 1st to 2nd gear. trans fluid is full and doesn't smell burnt. have no idea what's wrong. I have a 1995 buick park avenue.

If you have an automatic transmission, this might be due to a slow sensor, vacuum lines on the transmission, or a problem with the error codes. If it is a manual, a worn clutch disc, worn bearings, binding shift linkage or the synchronizer assembly might be a problem. Take the car to a qualified mechanic for proper diagnosis.
